Wythenshawe Park in Manchester

Wythenshawe Park is one of Manchester’s largest and most diverse green spaces, offering 85 hectares of parkland packed with activities, attractions and natural beauty. Located on Wythenshawe Road, it’s a destination that combines heritage, sport, family fun and peaceful countryside all in one place.

Outdoor space and nature

The park features extensive open grass areas alongside woodlands and designated nature reserve spaces, including Nan Nook Wood and Gib Lane Wood. These areas provide excellent opportunities for walking, exploring and wildlife spotting, making it a great choice for those looking to enjoy nature without leaving the city.

Family attractions

Families will find plenty to keep children entertained, from the large play area suitable for ages 15 and under to the popular Community Farm and Shop. The family trail offers a fun way to explore the park together, while the wide open spaces are perfect for picnics and outdoor games.

Sport and activities

Wythenshawe Park is well known for its sporting facilities, including football pitches, tennis courts, a basketball court, baseball pitches and a multi-use games area. There are also cycle skills zones, a learn-to-ride area and a pump track, making it a great destination for young riders and beginners developing their confidence on bikes.

Gardens and heritage features

The park is home to beautifully maintained spaces such as the walled garden and hall gardens, as well as the Horticultural Centre. These areas provide a quieter, more scenic side to the park and reflect its long history and importance within the local community.

Courtyard Café

The Courtyard Café is a central hub within the park, offering a wide selection of food and drinks in a relaxed setting. From coffee and homemade cakes to sandwiches, paninis and hot meals, it’s a popular meeting spot for families, walkers and sports groups. The café works with local suppliers and offers both sit-in and grab-and-go options.
