Stamford Park in Stalybridge
Stamford Park is a much-loved Victorian park sitting on the border of Stalybridge and Ashton-under-Lyne in Tameside, Greater Manchester.
Play areas, splash zone and family activities
Stamford Park is an outstanding destination for families, with two well-equipped play areas catering for different ages. The toddler area is set within a large sandpit and features roundabouts, small slides and rockers, while the older children's area includes an A-frame slide, climbing frame, basket slide and zip wire. A water splash zone with interactive fountains is a highlight on warmer days, and in the school holidays and at weekends you will often find a land train touring the park and bouncy castles available for a small charge.
Boating lake
The park's boating lake is open seasonally at weekends and during school holidays, with pedalos and rowing boats available to hire. Paddleboard sessions are also available to book through Ridgehill Enterprises.
The Dingle and green spaces
One of the park's most distinctive features is the Dingle — a steep-sided, heavily wooded Victorian valley with ornate rockwork and water features that feels entirely different in character to the open parkland above. It offers a tranquil and atmospheric walking experience within the wider park. The rest of the park is beautifully maintained, with ornamental flower gardens, open lawns and mature trees throughout.
Sports and recreation
Stamford Park also offers a bowling green and tennis courts for those seeking more structured recreation, alongside open spaces for informal games and picnics. The Pavilion Café is open seven days a week serving hot and cold food and drinks, and public toilets including accessible facilities and baby changing are available on site.
