Haigh Woodland Park in Wigan
Haigh Woodland Park is a large public woodland park on the outskirts of Wigan, managed by Wigan Council, and one of the most popular visitor destinations in Greater Manchester. The park is centred on the historic Haigh Hall estate and covers extensive grounds of mature woodland, open green space and ornamental gardens, offering a genuinely impressive setting for a day out at any time of year. Entry to the park itself is free, with charges applying to individual paid activities and car parking.
Adventure play and high ropes
The park's adventure play area is a major draw for families, featuring a mini zip-line, rope bridge, climbing frames, swings, seesaws and more. For older children and adults seeking more of a challenge, the high ropes aerial adventure course offers a thrilling experience in the treetops. Both facilities are set within the woodland, making for a memorable and atmospheric visit.
Golf and outdoor activities
Haigh is exceptionally well served for golf and outdoor sports, with three separate golf offerings on site: an 18-hole adventure golf course complete with obstacles and a Viking boat, an 18-hole crazy golf course, and a pitch and putt course. FootGolf — combining football and golf — is also available, making it one of the most varied activity parks in the region. Running routes cross a variety of terrains throughout the park, and a free weekly Parkrun takes place every Saturday morning at 9am.
Haigh Railway
The Haigh Railway is a popular seasonal attraction offering miniature railway rides through the woodland, and a firm favourite with younger visitors. Check the website or social media channels for current operating times and any seasonal variations.
Kitchen Courtyard and cafés
The Kitchen Courtyard is the social heart of the park, housing a range of independent cafés, shops and eateries. The Graze in The Park café is a particular highlight, set within the beautifully restored Stables building with a terrace overlooking the parkland. The courtyard also hosts the park's regular Artisan Markets and Foodie Friday street food evenings, which run throughout the spring and summer season.
Events and nature programme
Haigh runs a rich and varied events programme throughout the year, including brass band concerts, twilight bat walks, moth mornings, woodland spa days, history talks and circus theatre performances. Many events are free to attend, with others ticketed through Eventbrite. Check the what's on page on the website for the latest listings, and follow Haigh on Facebook and Instagram for last-minute updates.
