Chorlton Water Park in Manchester
Chorlton Water Park is a designated Local Nature Reserve, centred around a large lake and surrounded by woodland and grassland habitats. Located just off Maitland Avenue in Chorlton, it offers a calm and scenic environment that feels far removed from the city despite being easily accessible.
The lake and outdoor space
The lake is the focal point of the park, created from a former gravel pit during the construction of the M60 in the 1970s. Today it provides a beautiful setting for walking, relaxing and enjoying nature, with paths circling the water and connecting through the surrounding landscape.
Walking and accessibility
A network of accessible paths runs throughout the park, making it suitable for a wide range of visitors including families with pushchairs and those with mobility needs. The routes are ideal for gentle walks, jogging or simply taking in the scenery.
Wildlife and nature
The mix of woodland, grassland and water habitats makes Chorlton Water Park a great place for wildlife spotting. Birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts will find plenty to see throughout the year.
Family-friendly features
There is a small children’s play area suitable for ages 12 and under, along with picnic benches and open space for informal play and family time outdoors.
