Bruntwood Park in Cheadle

Bruntwood Park is a 100-acre recreational park in Cheadle, Stockport. Set across a diverse landscape of mature woodland, hay meadows, ornamental gardens, wetlands and waterways, the park provides a genuinely varied experience whether you're visiting for sport, nature, play or simply a relaxed day out. It is managed by Stockport Council and is free to enter.

Play areas and family facilities

The park's centrepiece is its large, fully accessible children's play area, which includes a sandpit with a pirate ship, a climbing and slide area for smaller children, and more challenging equipment including a zip wire and larger slides for older children. A separate toddler play area is also available. Toilets with baby changing facilities are located next to the play area, and during school holidays and weekends a bouncy castle is often available for a small charge.

BMX track

Bruntwood Park is home to a world-class lottery-funded BMX race track, free for anyone to use with appropriate protective clothing — including a helmet. The track has a variety of ramps and features to suit all abilities, from beginners and young children on balance bikes through to experienced riders. Bruntwood Park BMX Club, affiliated with British Cycling, is also based at the park and runs coaching sessions and club events throughout the year.

Sports and recreation

Beyond the BMX track, the park offers an 18-hole par 3 pitch and putt course run by Cheadle Golf Club, football pitches, an orienteering course and indoor and outdoor archery ranges — making it one of the most well-equipped parks in Greater Manchester for active recreation. Walking routes wind through woodland and alongside the duck pond, waterways and ornamental gardens, with a circular trail of approximately 2.6km making for an easy and varied walk.

The Vinery Restaurant and refreshments

The Vinery Restaurant is housed in the park's beautifully restored Victorian conservatory and serves hot food and drinks in a relaxed setting overlooking the woodland. A separate refreshment kiosk near the play area serves hot and cold drinks, snacks and ice cream and is popular on warmer days.
